STEVE LINNEBUR WINS COLORADO AUCTIONEERS ASSOCIATION’S TOP BIDCALLER AND AUCTIONEER AWARD
You would have thought that last year (2008) was Steve Linnebur’s year. The 25 year member of the Colorado Auctioneers Assn (CAA), from Byers, CO, was recognized by the association for his dedication and professionalism to his trade by being inducted to the CAA Hall of Fame at the State Convention in January. Well the good just gets better. This year Steve was once again the recipient of praise and adulation for his hard work. On Friday Jan 9th, 2009 Steve managed to win the elusive CAA Championship Bid caller and Auctioneer of the Year Award.
Not that it was easy. The CAA is a professional group that exists to promote the auction method of marketing through professional and ethical auctioneering practices in the Colorado region. Membership is open to auctioneers, auction companies, and associates with an interest in this age-old method of marketing. Its membership includes the leaders in the Auction industry, both in the state of Colorado and the Nationwide. Their standards are high. The CAA Mission Statement is as follows: To promote the auction method of marketing to all buyers and sellers through continued professionalism, education, and experience. The State Auctioneering Contest reflects all those standards in the competition.
This year’s competition consisted of fourteen of the best auctioneers in the State of Colorado. The judging panel, made up of five professionals, whose qualifications included being former Colorado Champions, an International Livestock Champion, Hall of Fame Members and representatives of the National Auctioneers Assn., were without a doubt some of the best Auction Professionals in the industry.
All contestants drew for position and then sold three items in the first go-around. Five finalists were then selected. A subsequent interview was conducted with three questions covering the topics of Business Acumen, Ethics, and Professionalism. A final bid-call round consisting of three items each, was conducted for each finalist to finish off the competition.
As anyone who has been in the competition can tell you, there is nothing quite as difficult as competing and selling in front of your peers. Yet when all the dust settled, Steve Linnebur was crowned our Champion.
It had been a long time coming. Steve had entered the CAA Auctioneers Competition fourteen times in previous years. He had been named runner-up 4 times. He made the “final five” several more. But the hard work and perseverance finally paid off.
Steve’s love for the Auction Business began like it did for many of us. Traveling with his dad to livestock sales as a small boy, Steve became enchanted with the cadence of the auctioneer. In 1977 he attended the prestigious Missouri Auction School and began the long road to champion by working any place he could while finishing up his college education. In June 1980, Steve and his wife Alice established Linnebur Auctions, Inc., a full service auction company. The home office is located in Byers, CO (approx. 40 miles east of Denver on I-70). They provide on-site auction and appraisal services to clients in the entire eastern Colorado area. Linnebur Auctions, Inc. has continually built a reputation for running an honest and efficient business. Specializing primarily in the Ag sector, they sell Farm Equipment, Complete Dispersals, Construction, Antiques, Estates, Liquidations, Household, Vehicles, Livestock and just about anything else that can be sold.
Steve and his crew put on about 40 sales a year. On top of that, he makes himself available to sell and promote the Jr. Livestock Sales and the Youth Sales in the 4-H programs around the state. On sale days it’s not unusual for Steve to employ up to a dozen people to ensure the success of his auctions. And if that weren’t enough, Steve is also employed as a Relief Auctioneer and Ringman in the Colorado Dealers Auto Auctions. He takes the title “Full Time Auctioneer” seriously.
Along with a Champion Trophy Buckle, which he wears proudly, Steve won $1000 to defray the cost of going to the National Auctioneers Convention and Show this summer in Kansas City, MO. He will be representing Colorado and once again competing against the best in the business in the International Auctioneers Competition. As the CAA Champion he will be our goodwill ambassador for the state’s auction industry.
Since he’s conducted himself as a champion for so long, we know he’ll do us proud.

Linnebur Inducted into CAA Auctioneers Hall Of Fame.....
From the CAA: "The Colorado Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame honors Colorado professional auctioneers whose long careers have demonstrated the integrity and high standards which make them leaders in the auction industry. They must also have shown exceptional commitment and contribution to the CAA. Additionally, each nominated auctioneer must be a demonstrated asset to the community in which he lives.....".
Many auctioneers from around Colorado convened on January 4-6, 2008, for the Annual Colorado Auctioneers Association (CAA) Convention in Denver, CO at the Four Points Sheraton. This was a special year, as they celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Association. During the three days, many seminars, workshops, fun auctions, contests and meetings were held for the members to attend and participate in. The final event of the convention is the Hall of Fame Banquet where a CAA member is inducted into the CAA Hall of Fame. This year Steve Linnebur with Linnebur Auctions, Inc. of Byers, CO was presented with this coveted award. Steve joins twenty-four other recipients who have received this honor in the past fifty years. Steve was surprised by forty family, friends and crew members attending the Banquet in his honor
